What Are Custom Brochures?

A brochure is a multi-panel printed piece designed to organize and present information in a structured, easy-to-read format. Unlike a single-page flyer, a brochure guides the reader through several sections — covering what you do, why you’re the right choice, and how to reach you — in a format compact enough to hand out, display, or mail.

At My Color Copies in Mapleton, Utah, we print professional brochures in a range of formats on premium paper stock. Whether you need a simple half-fold for a church ministry, a tri-fold for a restaurant, or a gate fold for a real estate presentation, we handle each job with care and deliver clean, accurate results.

Fold Formats Explained

Tri-Fold (Letter Fold): The most common brochure format. An 8.5x11 sheet is folded into thirds, creating six panels (three on each side). Ideal for service overviews, welcome packets, product line-ups, and anything where you want organized sections. Fits neatly in a rack or standard business envelope.

Half-Fold (Bifold): A sheet folded once down the middle, creating four panels (two on each side). More open and spacious than a tri-fold. Great for event programs, church bulletins, menus, and presentations with photos or larger text. Not sure which format fits your project? Our guide on tri-fold vs half-fold brochures breaks down the key differences.

Z-Fold (Accordion Fold): Panels fold alternately in opposite directions like an accordion. Creates an interesting reading experience and can be designed so each panel stands independently. Good for timelines, step-by-step guides, and visual storytelling.

Gate Fold: Two outer panels fold inward to meet in the middle, like opening a gate. Makes a strong visual impression when opened. Commonly used for high-end presentations, product launches, and premium event invitations.

When to Choose Brochures

Brochures are the right tool when you need to communicate more than a flyer can hold but want something more portable than a booklet. Common uses include:

Healthcare and Professional Services: Patient intake information, procedure overviews, service descriptions, pricing guides, and office policies. A well-designed brochure on quality stock signals professionalism before the client says a word.

Churches and Religious Organizations: Welcome brochures, ministry overviews, event handouts, and outreach materials. We print church brochures regularly for congregations throughout Utah County.

Restaurants and Hospitality: Full-service menus, catering information, takeout menus, and promotional pieces for local tourism. See our dedicated Menus service for restaurant-specific printing.

Real Estate: Neighborhood guides, property feature sheets, buyer or seller guides, and open house materials. A gloss brochure with high-quality property photos makes a lasting impression.

Nonprofits and Community Organizations: Donor information, program descriptions, volunteer recruitment, and annual highlights. We work with many Utah nonprofits and understand budget constraints.

Paper and Finishing Options

100lb Gloss Cover: Heavy, shiny, and vivid. Our most popular stock for client-facing brochures. Colors look rich and photography reproduces beautifully.

100lb Matte Cover: Same weight as gloss but with a flat, non-reflective surface. More refined and easier to read in bright light. Popular for medical, legal, and professional services.

Scored Fold: Every brochure we fold is scored first — meaning we run a line tool across the paper at the fold point to compress the fibers. This creates a sharp, straight crease and prevents the coating from cracking along the fold, especially important on heavy gloss cover stock.

Common Questions About Brochures

What fold types do you offer for brochures?
We offer tri-fold (letter fold), half-fold (bifold), z-fold (accordion), and gate fold. Each has different panel counts and is suited to different content layouts. Contact us if you're not sure which format is right for your project.
What size do brochures typically print at?
Most tri-fold and half-fold brochures print on 8.5x11 flat paper, which folds down to a compact finished size. We can also print on 8.5x14 or 11x17 flat sheets for larger brochures. Custom sizes available on request.
How should I set up my brochure file for printing?
Set up your file to the full flat (unfolded) size with panel guides at the fold points. Include 0.125-inch bleed on all outer edges. Export as a print-ready PDF with crops and bleed marks. We can advise on panel sizes for each fold type — just ask.
What paper stock do you recommend for brochures?
100lb gloss cover is our most popular for brochures. It's stiff, prints color beautifully, and feels substantial. If you prefer a more understated look, 100lb matte cover is a great alternative. Both take scoring and folding well.
Can you score and fold the brochures for me?
Yes. All our brochure orders include scoring and folding. Scoring is done before folding to ensure a clean crease without cracking the paper surface, which is especially important on heavy coated stocks.
Do you offer matte or gloss laminate on brochures?
Laminate is available on larger print runs. It adds durability and a premium feel — gloss laminate enhances color vibrancy while matte laminate gives a soft, refined look. Ask us about laminate pricing for your quantity.
How many brochures do I need to order at minimum?
There is no strict minimum, but brochures become most economical at 100 pieces or more due to setup and folding time. For smaller quantities, consider whether a flat single-sheet flyer or color copy might serve your needs.
Can you print brochures for out-of-state customers?
Yes. We ship brochure orders anywhere in the US. Orders are packaged flat in boxes to prevent damage in transit. Lead time for shipping orders is typically two to four business days from print completion.
