What Is Professional Menu Printing?

Your menu is often one of the first things a customer reads when they sit down at your restaurant, and it’s one of the last things a takeout customer looks at when deciding what to order. A well-printed menu on quality paper sends an immediate signal about your business: it says you care about the details. A flimsy, poorly printed menu says the opposite.

At My Color Copies in Mapleton, Utah, we print professional menus for restaurants, cafes, food trucks, catering companies, and event venues. We offer multiple formats, paper stocks, and finishing options so you get menus that look good, feel right in hand, and hold up through the demands of daily restaurant use.

Half-Fold Menu: Printed on an 8.5x11 sheet and folded to 5.5x8.5. Four panels total — two on each side. One of the most common restaurant menu formats. Compact, easy to handle, and provides space for organized category sections on the inside panels.

Tri-Fold Menu: Three panels on each side, typically printed on an 8.5x11 or 8.5x14 sheet. Good for restaurants with more menu categories — appetizers, mains, desserts, drinks — who want everything on one piece without making guests flip pages.

Flat Single-Sheet Menu: No folding. A flat 8.5x11 or 8.5x14 page printed front and back. Simple, modern, and increasingly popular with restaurants that want a clean, uncluttered look. Easy to update and reprint when prices or items change.

Table Tent Menu: A folded card that stands upright on the table surface. Used for daily specials, drink menus, dessert menus, and promotional offers. We print table tents in 4x6, 4x9, and other standard sizes.

Takeout Menu: Takeout menus are typically printed in high volumes on lighter stock for economical distribution. Many restaurants include a takeout menu with every order and display them at the counter for customers to take home. We offer volume pricing on bulk takeout menu runs.

Catering Menu: A catering menu needs to communicate packages, pricing, and food options clearly to potential clients. We print catering menus in folded brochure or multi-panel formats on heavier stock for a professional presentation.

Paper and Coating Options

80lb Cardstock: Solid and economical. Good for takeout menus and high-volume reprints. Heavier than regular copy paper but still affordable at volume.

100lb Cardstock: Our most popular stock for dine-in menus. Substantial, professional, and holds up well through regular use. Available in both matte and gloss finish.

130lb Cardstock: Premium heavy stock for high-end restaurant menus. Noticeably substantial in hand. Best for fine dining or when you want to make a strong first impression.

Matte Laminate: A food-safe matte coating that creates a wipeable, durable surface. Non-reflective and easy to read under any lighting. Our recommendation for menus that will be handled daily.

Gloss Laminate: Shiny, vivid, and equally durable. Makes food photography pop. Great for menus that feature photos of your dishes.

Uncoated Cardstock: A natural, soft-to-the-touch surface. Popular for farm-to-table, artisan, and casual restaurant concepts where a warm, organic feel suits the brand.

When to Reprint Menus

Most restaurants update their menus seasonally, annually, or whenever prices or offerings change. We make reprints easy. If you order with us, we’ll keep your file on record so you can reorder quickly without re-uploading your design every time.

For restaurants that update frequently, we recommend keeping your menu design in an editable format (PDF, InDesign, or Canva) so price changes and item additions are quick. Then send us the updated PDF and we’ll have a new run ready within a business day or two.

Common Questions About Menus

What paper stock do you recommend for restaurant menus?
For in-house dine-in menus, 100lb or 130lb cardstock is best — it feels substantial and resists curling. For takeout menus meant to be distributed and used once, 80lb cardstock or thick text stock is more economical. Lamination adds durability for frequently handled menus.
Can you laminate menus for durability?
Yes. We offer matte and gloss lamination for menus. Laminated menus are easy to wipe clean and hold up much better through repeated handling. Lamination is especially recommended for dine-in menus that will be used daily.
What sizes do you print menus?
Common restaurant menu sizes include 8.5x11 folded to 5.5x8.5 (half-fold), 8.5x14 flat or folded, and 11x17 folded to 8.5x11. We can also print table tents in 4x6 or custom sizes. Contact us for unusual dimensions.
What is a table tent menu?
A table tent is a folded card that stands upright on a table surface. It's commonly used for specials, drink menus, dessert menus, and promotional offers. We print table tents in standard sizes and can score them for clean folding.
Can you print menus with food photos?
Yes. Our CMYK digital press reproduces food photography with good color accuracy. For best results, photos should be at least 300 DPI at their final printed size. If you're not sure about your image quality, send us the file and we can advise before printing.
Do you offer bulk pricing for menu reprints?
Yes. Volume pricing applies on orders of 50 or more menus, with further discounts at 100, 250, and 500+. If you order menus regularly, contact us about setting up a recurring order arrangement.
How do I set up a menu file for printing?
Export your menu as a print-ready PDF at the correct dimensions. If your design has colors or images that extend to the edge of the page, include a 0.125-inch bleed on all sides. Make sure all fonts are embedded or outlined in the PDF.
Can you print catering menus for events?
Yes. Catering menus, event dinner menus, and special occasion menus are all things we handle. Whether you need 50 single-page event menus or 500 folded catering brochures, contact us for a quote.
